THE ORIGINAL X.O COGNAC

Created by Maurice Hennessy in 1870 for his circle of friends, Hennessy X.O was one of the first Cognacs classified as X.O, or “extra old”, because of its extended aging process.

EARLY SHIPMENTS

In the year of its creation, Hennessy X.O was already being delivered to Irish cognac lovers.
In 1872, it became known to key Chinese customers in Shanghai, who ordered sixty bottles from the House. The character of Hennessy X.O was particularly appreciated in China where, over the years, orders continued to grow.

AN ICONIC DESIGN

In 1947, Gérald de Geoffre designed the first Hennessy X.O decanter whose distinctive form is still familiar to us today, at the request of Maurice Hennessy.
The young Marquis wished to give it an aura worthy of the cognac it contained: it combines gentle curves and a powerful silhouette, a tribute to the pyramid-like forms of the grape bunches that gave birth to the eaux-de-vie.
