For United Visual Artists, the road began in Cognac

When the Maison invited United Visual Artists to create an immersive art installation for Hennessy V.S.O.P, the art collective traveled to Hennessy’s historic seat to learn about how cognac is blended and experience a sense of place. What the artists discovered in Cognac worked their imagination. As it turned out, there are many unexpected parallels between the ageing of eaux-de-vie and the collective’s recurring exploration of motion, light and the relationship of space and time. The concept of ‘time blending’ emerged almost instantly, culminating in a kinetic light sculpture called “Harmonics”.A metaphor for the eaux-de-vie in Hennessy V.S.O.P, “Harmonics” is an immersive sensory installation made using amber-hued beams of light and sounds that appear to blend organically.

"A fundamental part of our work revolves around the limits of our perception, the way we perceive reality,” explains United Visual Artists founder Matt Clark. He likens the eaux-de-vie in Hennessy V.S.O.P to the stars in a night sky: each comes from a different point in time, yet we all perceive them as a whole.  Blending geography and culture through unique craftsmanship is one process that Hennessy and United Visual Artists share. But behind that lies something even greater: the richness of individual savoir-faire. As Matthew Clark explains, “Each member of our team has a very personal frame of reference. We like to remain open to variations, to opportunities that might only emerge along the way.”
